First Solar Super Bowl XLIX VolunteersFor 15 years the Phoenix area has been home to First Solar, a thriving city and a wonderful hometown for hundreds of our associates. Earlier this year, to show our gratitude for the many opportunities afforded to us as a business and as individual associates, First Solar signed on as a proud partner of the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee (AZSBHC). To help the greater Phoenix area prepare the city for the spotlight leading up to Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, 2015, First Solar and its associates have worked with AZSBHC to become heavily involved in our community, volunteering and raising awareness about the Valley of the Sun. Since October, First Solar has provided numerous opportunities for associates located in the company’s Tempe headquarters to participate in community service projects sponsored by the Host Committee, as well as to support activities at Super Bowl Central in downtown Phoenix.

Aside from hanging with “Spike”, the Super Bowl XLIX mascot, the Arizona-based First Solar team has already completed more than 180 man-hours of community service through its involvement with the AZSBHC, with plans to do much more leading up to Super Bowl XLIX. Below are just a few of the organizations First Solar associates have been supporting.

At Loma Linda Elementary School, company volunteers were trained in a program called Playworks, which teaches kids to become engaged citizens through play. After learning the core games, the First Solar team headed out to recess to play with Loma Linda students.

First Solar volunteers also worked alongside members of Assistance League, an organization dedicated to providing accessibility and fulfillment of community needs at the local level. Volunteers participated in a plethora of activities including assisting kids with the uniform fitting process for K-8 schools, building toiletry-filled health kits that are provided to school children, and preparing clothing and shoe donations for the Operation School Bell program. Volunteers also went through gently used books to sort into appropriate grade levels. Yesterday, volunteers on our team worked with Feed My Starving Children to hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. In two weekends, on December 13th, First Solar associates will help at the 4.9K Fun Run at Rawhide in Chandler, Arizona, where they will work the registration desk, distribute water to runners, and volunteer in other capacities for the family-oriented event.

In addition to hosting numerous volunteer projects, First Solar is proud to sponsor the Super Bowl XLIX Countdown Clock, which will be a staple landmark in Downtown Phoenix during the celebrations. The clock will be a focal point of the free, football-theme fan campus called Super Bowl Central.

As Super Bowl XLIX puts all eyes on Phoenix this February, we are making sure that we use this opportunity to do the best work possible in our community. First Solar is grateful to be based in such a welcoming, prosperous city as Phoenix, and we want to give back to the city that continues to support us. We are committed to supporting our associates in their community endeavors in every location. Being part of the AZSBHC, and partnering with other local companies, has enabled us to mobilize volunteers and make a positive and lasting impact in Phoenix.

The AZSBHC is accepting additional volunteers, and you must be registered through the AZSBHC by the end of the day today, December 4th, to participate. Join us in giving back to our community. Click here to register to volunteer with the AZSBHC.
